BIOGRAPHY
Dr. Ackerly was born and raised in Washington, DC. He was class valedictorian at St. Albans School, graduated Magna Cum Laude from Harvard College, and holds a Master’s degree in Health Policy from the London School of Economics. He earned his medical degree from Duke University as a recipient of the Nanaline Duke Scholarship and completed his Internal Medicine training at the Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH). After his residency, he continued to practice at MGH’s Senior Health Clinic and worked as MGH’s Assistant Chief Medical Officer, while serving on the faculty at Harvard Medical School.
He has received particular recognition for his efforts to improve the care of older adults. He was nominated for the Schwartz Center’s National Compassionate Caregiver Award, selected as an Innovation Advisor to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), and named a Practice Change Leader by the Hartford Foundation and Atlantic Philanthropies.
A board-certified internist and primary care physician, Dr. Ackerly has published articles in numerous medical journals and has served as Assistant Professor of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Vanderbilt University.
In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Ackerly has held senior leadership positions in the government and private sector, most recently as Chief Medical Officer of Privia Health. He lives in Northwest Washington, DC with his wife, their young sons, and Labrador retriever.
